The topic Plex’s $249.99 plan is back, but only if you’re willing to pay it again in… is currently the subject of lively discussion — readers and analysts are keeping a close eye on developments.
This is taking place in a dynamic environment: companies’ decisions and competitors’ reactions can quickly change the picture.

Back in mid-May, Plex shocked its users by announcing that it was trebling the cost of its lifetime plan from $249.99 to $749.99. Fortunately, the company gave us until July 1st before the change would take effect, meaning that anyone who was on the fence about purchasing one could still grab it before the price spike.
Well, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that Plex once again has a $249.99 price plan. The bad news is, it’ll now only give you five years of service instead of a lifetime.
Over on the Plex website, the company has changed some wording on its lifetime Plex Pass pricing article. The original article simply stated at the top of the page that a price increase was on the way; now that the deadline has passed, the passage has been updated with new information:
As of today, July 1, 2026, the price of a new Lifetime Plex Pass is now $749.99 USD*. This update reflects the real, ongoing value of the software and our commitment to building, improving, and supporting Plex for years to come. We’re also introducing a new 5-Year recurring Plex Pass for $249.99 USD*, giving you one more way to enjoy the benefits of Plex Pass for an extended period.
If you’ve been out of the loop, Plex originally tripled the price of the Lifetime Pass so that it “continues to more accurately reflect its true value.” The Lifetime Pass originally debuted at $75, then plateaued at $120 for almost a decade. It then jumped to $249.99 in April 2025, and now, to $749.99 this month. This new 5-year plan is likely an effort to plug the huge gap between the Annual Pass at $69.99 and the Lifetime Pass at $749.99.
