The topic Alleged video of iPhone 18 Pro shows new back design with mirror-finish Apple logo is currently the subject of lively discussion — readers and analysts are keeping a close eye on developments.

This is taking place in a dynamic environment: companies’ decisions and competitors’ reactions can quickly change the picture.

A video of an iPhone 18 Pro unit is making the rounds on social media, allegedly from the Tata leak, in which the phone is being recorded under drop test conditions.

The video does appear to show that the 18 Pro will feature a new back design where the metal and glass pieces are much more similar in color, a change from the notably contrasting two-tone effect seen on the 17 Pro. The Apple logo also appears to have a new reflective mirror finish.

If the video was showing a 17 Pro, we’d expect to see a much bigger difference in color between the glass area and the aluminum back. The silver 17 Pro rear glass is almost white. In this video, the alleged iPhone 18 Pro glass looks like almost the exact same shade of gray as the aluminum surrounding it.

It’s also hard to tell exact dimensions from the short clip that is being shared, but it also seems like the rear camera lenses stick out further from the frame compared to the iPhone 17 Pro protrusion.

This change matches previous schematics leaks. Typically bigger lenses means better picture quality, and one of the big selling points of the 18 Pro series is expected to be major camera improvements, including a new variable aperture feature.

9to5Mac did not independently verify whether this video is legitimate. While it is highly likely that the video came from the recent data leaks, there’s a chance it has simply been AI-generated in response to the recent frenzy.

Reuters reported yesterday the Tata leaks included drop test photos, not videos.

What we do know for sure is the Tata leaks include sensitive drawings of the iPhone 18 Pro circuit board, A20 chip, and lists of suppliers for hundreds of components. These are all things Apple would rather not have in the public domain.

Apple will officially unveil the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at a media event in September, alongside the brand new iPhone Fold. Updates to the base iPhone and iPhone Air will follow in the spring, marking a major shift in the iPhone’s release schedule.
